The School House Toastmasters

It has been remarked that “The human brain is a wonderful thing. It starts working the moment you are born and never stops until you stand up to speak in public.” It is funny because it contains an element of truth.
During my career I was called upon to give speeches and make presentations in public. I rather enjoyed it. But I had prepared myself by joining a local Toastmasters club which would meet weekly for the purpose of giving members a chance to practice public speaking and receive the feedback needed to improve. As a result of this constant practice, I gained the confidence I needed to speak in public.
The nearest Toastmaster club is in Ukiah. Until now.
Students at San Jose Del Rio Catholic School in Fort Bragg CA are doing exactly what we did in Toastmasters: prepare a speech, present it to the class and use the experience to improve. In short order they gain confidence in their ability to express their ideas and feelings. This is a useful skill for everyday life, not just for public speaking.
I invite you to see for yourself by going to the school's Facebook page.
