Dress Code

Uniform Details

Tops
White or navy blue polo shirt (girls may opt for ruffled or plain placket), or white button down shirt, with short or long sleeves. In cold, winter months, long-sleeve, white turtlenecks may be worn under the shirt. Shirts may not have any logos, words, or graphics other than the school logo.

Bottoms
Navy blue twill pants (no rips, stains, tears or decorations). Girls must also have a navy blue pleated (fully pleated on back and front) knee length skirt or jumper, or navy blue polo dress, without buckles or tabs.

Sweaters
Navy blue crew-neck cardigan, crew-neck sweater/sweatshirt, or navy-blue Polar-Tec fleece jacket. No hoodies are allowed. Boys may opt for a v-neck cardigan sweater/vest.

Shoes
Any solid black, brown, navy blue or white shoe, including athletic shoes made of materials such as canvas, leather, imitation leather, and suede, may be worn. All markings, shoe accents, stitching, tags and laces should be the same color as the shoe.(For example: all black Converse with white rubber toes and soles, or a white Nike shoes with a white swoosh are within the uniform code but black Nikes with white swoosh are not.) Boots (including but not limited to: Uggs, Mukluks, 1⁄2 boots) are not allowed. Shoes must be a type that the student can wear to play outside. Open-toed shoes and shoes with high heels are prohibited. Students are highly encouraged to wear athletic-style shoes which will not come off during recreation and play. Shoes must be kept in good repair or replaced.

Girls Socks
Color: White, black, or navy blue (solid colors only). With skirts for formal dress days (such as school photo day), knee-high, white socks are required.
Style: tights, triple roll socks, knee-high socks, ankle socks or leggings.
Leggings may never be worn as pants.

Boys Socks
Color: White, black, or navy blue (solid colors only).

Students are to be in uniform and adhering to uniform code—classroom, PE, and field trips—at all times from the start of the school day, until they have left campus or school-sponsored activities. Exceptions to this policy must be cleared with the Director.

Uniforms must be clean, pressed and in good repair.

Excessively worn, stained, or outgrown uniforms must be replaced.

The school sweater/sweatshirt or Polar-Tec fleece jacket are the only garments to be worn with the uniform while on campus. Overcoats or raincoats may be worn over the uniform sweater/sweatshirt or Polar-Tec jacket if needed for warmth. School sweaters may also be layered for warmth, e.g., a sweater worn under the fleece. Any other garment worn for warmth must not be visible under the uniform. No “hoodies” are allowed except for free dress days.

Girls’ skirts must fall mid-knee.

Shorts worn under skirts are allowed but must not show below the hemline.

For special events and school presentations, students must tuck in their shirts and boys must wear a belt.

Stud or small tasteful earrings, time-pieces, class rings or pieces of a religious nature are the only forms of jewelry permitted.

No visible tattoos (real or fake) for anyone or visible piercings for boys will be allowed on campus or at school-sanctioned events.

Girls may have pierced ears only - no other visible piercings are allowed for girls. Ear piercings for girls are limited to one or two piercings for each ear.

Free dress still requires attire that is neat, clean and modest. Clothing must not have inappropriate logos, words, pictures, etc. If in doubt about the appropriateness of a logo, word, or picture, do not wear the article in question. At their discretion, teachers and staff may ask a student to change attire, call home, or sit out from a field trip for inappropriate attire. Unless specific permission is given, shorts and sweats are not allowed for free dress. When allowed, shorts and pants must not be too short or too tight, as determined by the administration or faculty. This explicitly applies to free dress. Flannel/pajama/yoga-style exercise pants are never allowed without explicit approval. Tank tops are not permitted, including for P.E. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, etc., are never permitted.
General Appearance:

Girls’ hair shall be neat, combed and single-toned in a natural color. Extreme or distracting hairstyles and colors (including two-tone) are prohibited and determined solely on the discretion of the administration.

Boys’ hair shall be neatly trimmed and styled in a traditional manner. Hair should not hang down in the eyes or over the ears. For boys in grades 4-8, hair should not touch the collar of the shirt. Extreme or distracting hairstyles and colors are prohibited based solely on the discretion of the administration.

Boys must be clean-shaven—mustaches, beards, stubble, and sideburns past the middle of the ear are prohibited.

Makeup is not permitted for girls below grade 7. Grade 7 and 8 girls may wear a moderate amount of makeup tastefully applied, or fingernail polish in pale shades of pink or neutral.

Skirt Length: Skirts should be knee length.

Back Neckline: For special occasions when wearing outfits other than the school uniform do not wear a plunging back; the back neckline should not go below the back strap of an ordinary bra.

Shoulders: For special occasions when wearing outfits other than the school uniform do not wear strapless gowns; do not wear spaghetti straps; on very hot days, straps of at least 2” width on a top or sundress are acceptable (not appropriate for Mass, however).

Shorts: Shorts should be on the longer side (approaching the knee) and should not be too tight.

Gaps: No portion of the stomach or lower back should show.

Holes: Holes, intentional or otherwise, should not be present.
